Executive Summary
- Streaming giant Deezer reveals that nearly half of all new tracks are created by AI, with the majority designed to commit streaming fraud. The platform is shifting toward a user-centric payment model to protect human artists from synthetic dilution.
Strategic Deep-Dive
The music streaming landscape is facing an existential crisis as Deezer reports a surge in synthetic content. According to the platform, 44% of new music uploads are now AI-generated, but more disturbingly, these tracks are often the centerpiece of “streaming farms” designed to siphon royalty payments away from legitimate artists. These AI tracks are frequently short, repetitive, and devoid of artistic intent, created solely to exploit the “pro-rata” payment model used by major platforms.
In response, Deezer is implementing AI-detection algorithms and moving toward a “user-centric” payment model where subscriptions only support the artists the user actually listens to, thereby demonetizing the fraudulent bot-driven streams.
